Golden Curl Breast Cancer Awareness Month

For a second consecutive year Golden Curl has teamed up with National Breast Cancer Foundation Inc. in the month of October in order to raise awareness about the risks of breast cancer. At the end of this month we will donate €1 for every Golden Curl device that has been purchased online because we believe we can make a difference together.

Why are we taking action?

  • Because you, our beloved customers, are at the heart of our brand. It’s important that you take care of yourself and we want to use our platform to inform you and help you with that.

Why is it important?

  • Because for women, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in all European countries. There is no cure so early detection is the key and it provides the greatest possibility of successful treatment and prevention of further spreading. That’s why specialists recommend that you undergo yearly check-ups regularly.

What are the 3 steps to early detection of breast cancer?

  • Self awareness & examination: pay attention to the signals that your body is showing you - for example, if you notice any changes in your breasts like a lump or a thickening of the skin, a change in the size or the color of skin, discharge or anything that looks out of the ordinary, don’t panic! Often these symptoms are not due to cancer but the safe thing to do would be to schedule an appointment with your doctor and make sure there are no malignant process undergoing.
  • Well-woman exam: that means that each year you should visit your GP and/or gynecologist to perform a few routine tests to make sure everything is running smoothly. The yearly exam is a great opportunity for you to discuss with your health care provider any questions or concerns you have regarding your breast health.
  • Mamogram: Mammograms are X-rays that allow a specialist to examine the breast tissue for any suspicious areas. Thanks to them doctors can detect cancer or other problems before a lump becomes large enough to be detected by touch. They provide an effective way to find breast cancer in its early stages when treatment is usually the most successful. Mammograms are considered safe, quick, and relatively painless.

Another thing to keep in mind is your family health history - most women who develop breast cancer do not have a family history of this disease, according the American Cancer Society. However, having a first-degree relative (mother, sister, or daughter) with breast cancer almost doubles a woman’s risk.
